Scale Overview
The Jeste-Thomas Wisdom Index – JTWI (San Diego Wisdom Scale – SD-WISE-28) was developed by Dilip V. Jeste, Ellen E. Lee, Colin A. Depp, et al. (2020). It is designed to measure Wisdom. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 28 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: Prosocial Behaviors, Decisiveness, Emotional Regulation, Self-Reflection, Tolerance of Divergent Values, Spirituality, Social Advising.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 12 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 28 to 140. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Wisdom: 28 – 70
- Moderate Wisdom: 71 – 112
- High Wisdom: 113 – 140
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranges from 0.74 to 0.82.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 8 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
