The Job Perception Scale – JPS was developed by Hatfield, J., Robinson, R. B., & Huseman, R. C. (1985). It is designed to measure Job Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 21 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Work, Pay, Supervisor, Co-workers, Promotion.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = 1 (Left anchor), 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = 5 (Right anchor).
The scale includes 1 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 21 to 105. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Job Satisfaction: 21 – 52
- Moderate Job Satisfaction: 53 – 78
- High Job Satisfaction: 79 – 105
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values ranged from .87 to .93 for the composite measure.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
