The Career Satisfaction Scale – CSS was developed by Greenhaus, J. H., Parasuraman, A., & Wormley, W. M. (1990). It is designed to measure Career Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 5 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly agree, 2 = Agree to some extent, 3 = Uncertain, 4 = Disagree to some extent, 5 = Strongly disagree.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 5 to 25. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Career Satisfaction: 5 – 12
- Moderate Career Satisfaction: 13 – 17
- High Career Satisfaction: 18 – 25
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha of .83 to .89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
