Scale Overview
The Index of Organizational Reactions – IOR was developed by Dunham & Smith (1979). It is designed to measure Job Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Working adults / Employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 42 items organized into 8 factors/subscales: Supervision, Company Identification, Kind of Work, Amount of Work, Co-workers, Physical Work Conditions, Financial Rewards, Career Future.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Least satisfied / Negative, 2 = Somewhat dissatisfied / Slightly negative, 3 = Neutral / Moderate, 4 = Satisfied / Positive, 5 = Most satisfied / Very positive.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 42 to 210. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Satisfaction: 42 – 98
- Moderate Satisfaction: 99 – 154
- High Satisfaction: 155 – 210
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values ranged from .82 to .83.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
