Scale Overview
The Shortened Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) was developed by Mowday, R. T., Steers, R. M., & Porter, L. W. (1979). It is designed to measure Organizational Commitment. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Moderately disagree, 3 = Slightly disagree, 4 = Neither disagree nor agree, 5 = Slightly agree, 6 = Moderately agree, 7 = Strongly agree.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Commitment: 1 – 3
- Moderate Commitment: 3 – 5
- High Commitment: 5 – 7
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values ranged from .74 to .92.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
