Scale Overview
The Supervisory Support Scale was developed by Greenhaus, J. H., Parasuraman, A., & Wormley, W. M. (1990). It is designed to measure Supervisory Support. The scale is intended for use with Employees / Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly agree, 2 = Agree to some extent, 3 = Uncertain, 4 = Disagree to some extent, 5 = Strongly disagree.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 9 to 45. Interpretation guidelines:
- High perceived supervisory support: 9 – 22
- Moderate perceived supervisory support: 23 – 31
- Low perceived supervisory support: 32 – 45
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha of .93.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
