The Work Tension Scale was developed by House & Rizzo (1972). It is designed to measure Work Tension. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous True/False format.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 7 to 14. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Work Tension: 7 – 9
- Moderate Work Tension: 10 – 11
- High Work Tension: 12 – 14
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values ranged from .71 to .89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
