Scale Overview
The Job-Related Tension Index – JRTI was developed by Kahn, R. L., Wolfe, D. M., Quinn, R. P., & Snoek, J. D. (1964). It is designed to measure Job Stress. The scale is intended for use with Employees / Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Doesn't apply, 1 = Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Rather often, 5 = Nearly all the time.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Tension: 1 – 2
- Moderate Tension: 2 – 3
- High Tension: 3 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values ranged from .80 to .89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
