Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Feedback Tool for Responder Development – Senior Staff (FIRE-CU) was developed by Schulte & Thielsch (2019). It is designed to measure Training evaluation for rescue forces command staff. The scale is intended for use with Rescue forces command staff / fire department leadership team.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 22 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Instructor Behavior, Requirement Level, Structure, Group, Competence Acquisition, Transfer.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Instructor Behavior | 1,2,3,4 | 4 |
| Requirement Level | 5,6,7 | 3 |
| Structure | 8,9,10 | 3 |
| Group | 11,12,13 | 3 |
| Competence Acquisition | 14,15,16,17,18,19 | 6 |
| Transfer | 20,21,22 | 3 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Somewhat disagree, 4 = Neutral, 5 = Somewhat agree, 6 = Agree, 7 = Strongly agree.
The scale includes 3 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low/Poor Evaluation: 1 – 3
- Moderate Evaluation: 3 – 5
- High/Excellent Evaluation: 5 – 7
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .75 to .90, McDonald's omega = .76 to .91.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
