Scale Overview
The Organizational Commitment Scale – ISSP OC was developed by International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) (1997). It is designed to measure Organizational Commitment. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 3 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly agree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Neither agree nor disagree, 4 = Disagree, 5 = Strongly disagree.
The scale includes 3 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 3 to 15. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Commitment: 3 – 8
- Moderate Commitment: 9 – 11
- High Commitment: 12 – 15
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .44 – .76.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 1 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
