Scale Overview
The Professional Self-Efficacy Expectations Scale – Revised (BSW-5-Rev) was developed by Abele, Stief, & Andrä (2000). It is designed to measure Occupational Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Employed persons and students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 5 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all true, 2 = Rather not true, 3 = Rather true, 4 = Completely true.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low occupational self-efficacy: 1 – 2
- Moderate occupational self-efficacy: 2 – 3
- High occupational self-efficacy: 3 – 4
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .73 to .77.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 1 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
