Response anchors: 0 = 0 points (e.g., Never / 1-2 drinks / No), 1 = 1 point (e.g., Monthly or less / 3-4 drinks / Less than monthly), 2 = 2 points (e.g., 2-4 times a month / 5-6 drinks / Monthly / Yes, but not in the last year), 3 = 3 points (e.g., 2-3 times a week / 7-9 drinks / Weekly), 4 = 4 points (e.g., 4 or more times a week / 10 or more drinks / Daily or almost daily / Yes, during the last year).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low risk: 0 – 7
- Hazardous: 8 – 15
- Harmful: 16 – 19
- High risk: 20 – 40
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
