Scale Overview
The Combined Erectile Dysfunction Tests (CEDT) was developed by Althof et al. (EDITS), Rosen et al. (IIEF), Cappelleri et al. (SEAR) (1999 (EDITS), 1997 (IIEF), 2003 (SEAR)). It is designed to measure Erectile dysfunction, treatment satisfaction, and self-esteem/relationship quality. The scale is intended for use with Adult males with erectile dysfunction.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: EDITS – Treatment Satisfaction, IIEF – Erectile Function, IIEF – Orgasmic Function, IIEF – Sexual Desire, IIEF – Intercourse Satisfaction, IIEF – Overall Satisfaction, SEAR – Self-Esteem and Relationship Quality.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No sexual activity / Not receiving treatment, 1 = Almost never/never / Very dissatisfied / Very low, 2 = A few times / Moderately dissatisfied / Low, 3 = Sometimes / About equally satisfied and dissatisfied / Moderate, 4 = Most times / Moderately satisfied / High, 5 = Almost always/always / Very satisfied / Very high.
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Severe erectile dysfunction (IIEF-EF): 1 – 10
- Moderate dysfunction (IIEF-EF): 11 – 16
- Mild to moderate dysfunction (IIEF-EF): 17 – 21
- Mild dysfunction (IIEF-EF): 22 – 25
- No dysfunction (IIEF-EF): 26 – 30
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency across all three scales (Cronbach's alpha > 0.80).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
