The Social Components of Retirement Anxiety Scale – SCRAS was developed by Fletcher, W. L., and Hannson, R. O. (1991). It is designed to measure Retirement anxiety (social components). The scale is intended for use with Older workers (aged 50 and older).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 23 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Social Integration, Social Adjustment/Hardiness, Anticipated Social Exhaustion, Lost Friendships.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.

Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 23 to 115. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low retirement anxiety: 23 – 53
- Moderate retirement anxiety: 54 – 84
- High retirement anxiety: 85 – 115

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.84 – 0.90.
