Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Leadership Actions Survey (LAS) was developed by Goldstein, M. T. (1982). It is designed to measure Administrative influence tactics for innovation implementation. The scale is intended for use with School administrators and educational leaders.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 24 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Empirical-Rational, Power Coercive, Normative-Reeducative.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Empirical-Rational | 1,3,6,13,15,16,20,22 | 8 |
| Power Coercive | 8,11,17,19,21,23 | 6 |
| Normative-Reeducative | 2,4,5,7,9,10,12,14,18,24 | 10 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = None, 2 = Few, 3 = Half, 4 = Most, 5 = All.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 24 to 120. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Tactic Usage: 24 – 56
- Moderate Tactic Usage: 57 – 88
- High Tactic Usage: 89 – 120
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 8 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
