Scale Overview
The Quality of Relationships Inventory – QRI was developed by Pierce, G. R., Sarason, I. G., & Sarason, B. R. (1991). It is designed to measure Relationship Quality. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 29 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Social Support, Conflict, Depth.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all, 2 = A little, 3 = Quite a bit, 4 = Very much.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low presence of the dimension: 1 – 2
- Moderate presence of the dimension: 2 – 3
- High presence of the dimension: 3 – 4
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha: 0.85 (Support), 0.91 (Conflict), 0.84 (Depth).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
