Scale Overview
The Applicant Review (AR) was developed by Cherrington, D. J., and Cherrington, J. O. (1983). It is designed to measure Honesty and Aggressive Tendencies. The scale is intended for use with Job Applicants / General Adult Population.

This instrument consists of 66 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Social Attitudes, Personal Behaviors.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: Section 1: 1 = Strongly Disagree, Section 1: 2 = Disagree, Section 1: 3 = Agree, Section 1: 4 = Strongly Agree, Section 2: 1 = Always, Section 2: 2 = Frequently, Section 2: 3 = Occasionally, Section 2: 4 = Seldom, Section 2: 5 = Never.
The scale includes 27 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 99. Interpretation guidelines:
- Percentile-based honesty score: 0 – 99
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.83 (overall honesty score test-retest).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
