Scale Overview
The Effective School Function Inventory (ESFI) was developed by Carter, J., and Michael, W. B. (1995). It is designed to measure School organizational effectiveness and leadership. The scale is intended for use with School teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 39 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Supportive-collegial interaction, Cooperative facilitation of goal attainment in the teaching-learning process, Morally oriented leadership, Instructional strategy sharing by teachers, Teacher readiness for innovation facilitated by leadership and teacher attitude toward instruction, Facilitation of professionalism.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 4-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 4 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 39 to 156. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low perceived school effectiveness: 39 – 78
- Moderate perceived school effectiveness: 79 – 117
- High perceived school effectiveness: 118 – 156
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.60 to 0.75 for the subcategories.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
