Scale Overview
The Attitudes about Merit Pay – AMP was developed by Weber, L. (1988). It is designed to measure Attitudes about merit pay. The scale is intended for use with Teachers, administrators, and parents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Agree, 2 = Tend to Agree, 3 = Tend to Disagree, 4 = Disagree.
The scale includes 7 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Favorable attitude toward merit pay: 1 – 2
- Unfavorable attitude toward merit pay: 2 – 4
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.92 (total group alpha).
Administration
