Scale Overview
The Ritual Interaction Scale – RI Scale was developed by Junyang Lu, Ivan Ka Wai Lai, Hongchang Zhang, Geng Liu, & Jiali Li (2024). It is designed to measure Ritual Interaction. The scale is intended for use with Tourists.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 17 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Contextual elements, Ritual symbols, Scripted Processes, Shared emotions.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 17 to 119. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Ritual Interaction: 17 – 51
- Moderate Ritual Interaction: 52 – 85
- High Ritual Interaction: 86 – 119
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High (validated through five stages of research).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
