Scale Overview
The Revised Subjective Stress Scale – RSSS was developed by Mitchell M. Berkun, Hilton M. Bialek, Richard P. Kern, Kan Yagi (1962). It is designed to measure Psychological Stress. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Does not describe my feelings, 1 = Describes my feelings.
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 14. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Stress: 0 – 4
- Moderate Stress: 5 – 9
- High Stress: 10 – 14
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
