Scale Overview
The Self Concept-Self Report Scale (SC-SR) was developed by Arthur W. Combs, Daniel W. Soper, Clifford C. Courson (1963). It is designed to measure Self-Concept. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents (ages 6-17).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 18 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly agree with the statement on the left, 2 = Somewhat agree with the statement on the left, 3 = Neutral / In between, 4 = Somewhat agree with the statement on the right, 5 = Strongly agree with the statement on the right.
The scale includes 9 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 18 to 90. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Concept: 18 – 42
- Moderate Self-Concept: 43 – 65
- High Self-Concept: 66 – 90

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not indicated.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
