Scale Overview
The Function Assessment Scale – FAS was developed by Bah, A. J., Wurie, H. R., Samai, M., Horn, R., & Ager, A. (2025). It is designed to measure Functional Status. The scale is intended for use with Perinatal women (pregnant women and new mothers).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 5 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = No difficulty, 2 = Mild difficulty, 3 = Moderate difficulty, 4 = Severe difficulty.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 5 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- High Functional Status (Low Difficulty): 5 – 10
- Moderate Functional Difficulty: 11 – 15
- Severe Functional Difficulty: 16 – 20
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha of 0.92.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
