Scale Overview
The Counselor Self-Reflection Inventory – CSRI was developed by Daniel A. DeCino, Steven R. Chesnut, Phillip L. Waalkes, & Reed N. Keen (2025). It is designed to measure Counselor self-reflective practice. The scale is intended for use with Counselors, counselor educators, supervisors, and counselors-in-training.

This instrument consists of 39 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Very untrue of me, 2 = Untrue of me, 3 = Somewhat untrue of me, 4 = Somewhat true of me, 5 = True of me, 6 = Very true of me.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 39 to 234. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Reflection: 39 – 104
- Moderate Self-Reflection: 105 – 169
- High Self-Reflection: 170 – 234
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of McDonald's omega = 0.92.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
