Scale Overview
The Acquired Brain Injury-Related Sexuality Measure – ABI-RSM was developed by Ann-Sofie Ek, Charlotta Holmström, Eva Elmerstig (2023). It is designed to measure Sexuality and relationship experiences post-acquired brain injury. The scale is intended for use with Adults with acquired brain injury (ABI).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 18 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Information and Counseling on Sexuality Post-ABI, Adjustment and Experience of Sexuality Post-ABI, Relationships and Social Impact, Importance of Sexuality and Intimacy, Partner Communication and Acceptance.

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cognitive functions: 0.859; Sexual functions: 0.818 (males), 0.855 (females); Importance of sexuality: 0.779; Partner's acceptance/communication: 0.830; Orgasm/satisfaction: 0.870.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
