Scale Overview
The Competencies and Capabilities of a Good Teacher Measure was developed by Elena MartÃn-Pastor, Beatriz Sánchez-Barbero, Diego Corrochano, Alejandro Gómez-Gonçalves (2023). It is designed to measure Preservice teachers’ perceptions of essential teacher competencies. The scale is intended for use with Preservice teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 22 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Personal qualities, Training, Pedagogical aptitude, Interaction.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Total disagreement, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Agree, 4 = Total agreement.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 22 to 88. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Agreement: 22 – 44
- Moderate Agreement: 45 – 66
- High Agreement: 67 – 88
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alphas ranged from .750 to .924.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
