Scale Overview
The COVID-19 Response-Related Discrimination Scale was developed by Algarin, A. B., Yeager, S., Patterson, T. L., Strathdee, S. A., Harvey-Vera, A., Vera, C. F., Stamos-Buesig, T., Artamanova, I., Abramovitz, D., & Smith, L. R. (2023). It is designed to measure COVID-19 response-related discrimination. The scale is intended for use with Adults (specifically People Who Inject Drugs).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 4 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous Yes/No format.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- No reported discrimination: 0 – 0
- Experienced discrimination: 1 – 4

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of alpha = 0.66, omega = 0.66.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
