The Desire to Work in Nursing Instrument – DeWoNu-I was developed by Talman, Kirsi; Mäntylä, Henna; Hupli, Maija; Kanerva, Anne-Maria; Engblom, Janne; Haavisto, Elina (2023). It is designed to measure Desire to work in nursing. The scale is intended for use with Nursing applicants.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Nature of the work, Career opportunities, Suitability to nursing, Previous experiences.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Agree, 2 = Somewhat Agree, 3 = Somewhat Disagree, 4 = Disagree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 14 to 56. Interpretation guidelines:
- High desire to work in nursing: 14 – 28
- Moderate desire to work in nursing: 29 – 42
- Low desire to work in nursing: 43 – 56
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha 0.83 – 0.95.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
