Scale Overview
The Digital Competence Measure – DCM was developed by Isabell Runge, Rebecca Lazarides, Charlott Rubach, Dirk Richter, Katharina Scheiter (2023). It is designed to measure Teachers’ digital competence-related beliefs. The scale is intended for use with Teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Digital competence-related beliefs regarding differentiation, Digital competence-related beliefs regarding actively engaging learners.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 6 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low competence beliefs: 6 – 14
- Moderate competence beliefs: 15 – 22
- High competence beliefs: 23 – 30
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of McDonald's Omega: .93 – .96.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
