Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Disease Influenced Vaccine Acceptance Scale-Six (DIVAS-6) was developed by Lisa Grech, Bao Sheng Loe, Daphne Day, Daniel Freeman, Alastair Kwok, Mike Nguyen, Nathan Bain, Eva Segelov (2023). It is designed to measure Disease-related COVID-19 vaccine attitudes and concerns. The scale is intended for use with Adults with chronic illnesses.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Disease complacency, Vaccine vulnerability.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Disease complacency | 1,2,3 | 3 |
| Vaccine vulnerability | 4,5,6 | 3 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Somewhat disagree, 3 = Neither disagree nor agree, 4 = Somewhat agree, 5 = Strongly agree, 0 = Don't know.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 6 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low vaccine concern / High acceptance: 6 – 12
- Moderate vaccine concern / Potential hesitancy: 13 – 17
- High vaccine concern / High hesitancy: 18 – 30
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: Disease complacency = 0.73, Vaccine vulnerability = 0.85.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
