Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Employee After-Hour Connectivity, Autonomy, and Exhaustion-Model Inventory was developed by Ward van Zoonen, Jeffrey W. Treem, Anu E. Sivunen (2023). It is designed to measure After-Hour Connectivity, Autonomy, and Exhaustion. The scale is intended for use with Organizational employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 18 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Connectivity, Work Method Autonomy, Work Scheduling Autonomy, Work Criteria Autonomy, Exhaustion.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Connectivity | 1,2,3,4 | 4 |
| Work Method Autonomy | 5,6,7 | 3 |
| Work Scheduling Autonomy | 8,9,10 | 3 |
| Work Criteria Autonomy | 11,12,13 | 3 |
| Exhaustion | 14,15,16,17,18 | 5 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree / Disagreement (Items 1-13), 7 = Strongly Agree / Agreement (Items 1-13), 0 = Never (Items 14-18), 6 = Always, every day (Items 14-18).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Omega (Ω) ranged from .74 to .95.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
