Scale Overview
The Aggression/Victimization Scale – SAGE Baseline Survey was developed by Flewelling RL, Paschall MJ, Ringwalt CL (1993). It is designed to measure Aggressive and high-risk behaviors. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents (specifically males aged 12-16).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 4 = Within the past month, 3 = Between 1 and 6 months ago, 2 = Between 6 months and 1 year ago, 1 = Over 1 year ago, 0 = Never.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 12. Interpretation guidelines:
- No past-year violence-related behavior: 0 – 0
- Low level of past-year violence-related behavior: 1 – 4
- Moderate level of past-year violence-related behavior: 5 – 8
- High level of past-year violence-related behavior: 9 – 12
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
