The Beliefs Supporting Aggression Scale – BSAS was developed by Albert Bandura (1973). It is designed to measure Beliefs supporting aggression. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents (specifically males aged 12-16).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Agree, 4 = Strongly agree.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low support for aggressive behavior: 1 – 2
- Moderate support for aggressive behavior: 2 – 3
- High support for aggressive behavior: 3 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
