Scale Overview
The Delinquent Peers Scale – Rochester Youth Development Study (RYDS) was developed by Thornberry, T. P., Lizotte, A. J., Krohn, M. D., Farnworth, M., & Jang, S. J. (1994). It is designed to measure Peer delinquency. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = None of them, 2 = A few of them, 3 = Some of them, 4 = Most of them.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 8 to 32. Interpretation guidelines:
- No peer delinquency: 8 – 8
- Low peer delinquency: 9 – 16
- Moderate peer delinquency: 17 – 24
- High peer delinquency: 25 – 32
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
