Scale Overview
The Duke Anxiety-Depression Scale – DUKE-AD was developed by George R. Parkerson Jr., W. E. Broadhead (1997). It is designed to measure Anxiety and Depression. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No, doesn't describe me at all / None, 1 = Somewhat describes me / Some, 2 = Yes, describes me exactly / A lot.
The scale includes 1 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 14. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low probability of anxiety/depression: 0 – 4
- High probability of anxiety/depression (suggests clinical significance): 5 – 14
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
