Scale Overview
The Status-Concern Scale – SC was developed by W. C. Kaufman (1957). It is designed to measure Status Concern. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 3 = +3 (Strong agreement), 2 = +2 (Moderate agreement), 1 = +1 (Slight agreement), -1 = -1 (Slight disagreement), -2 = -2 (Moderate disagreement), -3 = -3 (Strong disagreement).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from -30 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Status Concern: -30 – -11
- Moderate Status Concern: -10 – 10
- High Status Concern: 11 – 30
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
