Scale Overview
The Eating Disorder Diagnostic Scale – DSM-5 Version (EDDS-DSM-5) was developed by Eric Stice, Paul Rohde, Sherry Shaw, & C. Nathan Marti (2016). It is designed to measure Eating Disorder Pathology. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 23 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Body Image and Overvaluation, Binge Eating Symptoms, Compensatory Behaviors, Night Eating, Demographics and Anthropometrics.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 2 = Slightly, 4 = Moderately, 6 = Extremely, YES = Yes, NO = No.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 127. Interpretation guidelines:
- Subclinical / Low Severity: 0 – 15
- Mild Severity: 16 – 35
- Moderate Severity: 36 – 60
- Severe Severity: 61 – 127
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency and diagnostic concordance.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
