The Hoffman Gender Scale – HGS was developed by Rose M. Hoffman, L. DiAnne Borders, & John A. Hattie (2000). It is designed to measure Gender Self-Confidence. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Gender Self-Definition, Gender Self-Acceptance.

Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Gender Self-Definition: alpha = 0.88 (women), 0.93 (men); Gender Self-Acceptance: alpha = 0.90 (women), 0.80 (men).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
