The Precarious Manhood Beliefs Scale – PMBS was developed by Joseph A. Vandello, Jennifer K. Bosson, Dov Cohen, Rene M. Burnaford, & Jonathan R. Weaver (2008). It is designed to measure Precarious manhood beliefs. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Somewhat Disagree, 4 = Undecided, 5 = Somewhat Agree, 6 = Agree, 7 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 6 to 42. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low agreement with precarious manhood beliefs: 6 – 18
- Moderate agreement with precarious manhood beliefs: 19 – 30
- High agreement with precarious manhood beliefs: 31 – 42
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
