The scale includes 33 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 66 to 330. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Sex Guilt: 66 – 154
- Moderate Sex Guilt: 155 – 242
- High Sex Guilt: 243 – 330
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Moral and acceptable: alpha 0.947; Unusual or private: alpha 0.929; Telling dirty jokes: alpha 0.940.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
