The California Q-Set Self-Report Adaptation and Big Five Inventory (CCQ-Self / BFI) was developed by Jack Block, Jeanne H. Block, & Oliver P. John (1980/1999). It is designed to measure Personality structure and Big Five traits. The scale is intended for use with Children, adolescents, and adults.

Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Extremely uncharacteristic, 2 = Quite uncharacteristic, 3 = Somewhat uncharacteristic, 4 = Slightly uncharacteristic, 5 = Neither characteristic nor uncharacteristic, 6 = Slightly characteristic, 7 = Somewhat characteristic, 8 = Quite characteristic, 9 = Extremely characteristic.
The scale includes 47 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 9. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low / Uncharacteristic: 1 – 3
- Medium / Neutral: 4 – 6
- High / Characteristic: 7 – 9
