Scale Overview
The Job Stress Measure – JSM was developed by Timothy A. Judge, John W. Boudreau, & Robert D. Bretz (1993). It is designed to measure Job Stress. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = produces no stress, 2 = produces little stress, 3 = produces some stress, 4 = produces quite a bit of stress, 5 = produces a great deal of stress.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 16 to 80. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Stress: 16 – 32
- Moderate Stress: 33 – 48
- High Stress: 49 – 64
- Very High Stress: 65 – 80
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.85.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
