Scale Overview
The Multidimensional Leader-Member Exchange Scale – LMX-MDM was developed by Robert C. Liden & Jacqueline M. Maslyn (1998). It is designed to measure Leader-Member Exchange. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.

This instrument consists of 12 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Affect, Loyalty, Contribution, Professional Respect.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 12 to 84. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low LMX Quality: 12 – 35
- Moderate LMX Quality: 36 – 60
- High LMX Quality: 61 – 84
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranges from .78 to .92 across dimensions.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
