The Organizational Commitment Questionnaire – OCQ was developed by Richard T. Mowday, Richard M. Steers, Lyman W. Porter (1979). It is designed to measure Organizational Commitment. The scale is intended for use with Employees and working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Willingness to Exert Effort, Desire to Maintain Membership, Acceptance of Organizational Values.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Commitment: 1 – 3
- Moderate Commitment: 3 – 5
- High Commitment: 5 – 7
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Satisfactory internal consistency and test-retest reliability.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
