The Organizational Commitment Questionnaire – OCQ was developed by Mowday, R. T., Steers, R. M., & Porter, L. W. (1979). It is designed to measure Organizational Commitment. The scale is intended for use with Employees / working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Willingness to exert effort, Desire to maintain membership, Acceptance of organizational values.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 15 to 105. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low organizational commitment: 15 – 45
- Moderate organizational commitment: 46 – 75
- High organizational commitment: 76 – 105
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency (typically alpha 0.82 to 0.93).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
