Scale Overview
The Bandura’s Teacher Efficacy Scale – BTES was developed by Albert Bandura (1997). It is designed to measure Teacher Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Teachers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: Efficacy to Influence Decision Making, Efficacy to Influence School Resources, Instructional Self-Efficacy, Disciplinary Self-Efficacy, Efficacy to Enlist Parental Involvement, Efficacy to Enlist Community Involvement, Efficacy to Create a Positive School Climate.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Efficacy to Influence Decision Making | 1,2 | 2 |
| Efficacy to Influence School Resources | 3 | 1 |
| Instructional Self-Efficacy | 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 | 9 |
| Disciplinary Self-Efficacy | 13,14,15 | 3 |
| Efficacy to Enlist Parental Involvement | 16,17,18 | 3 |

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Nothing, 2 = 2, 3 = Very Little, 4 = 4, 5 = Some Influence, 6 = 6, 7 = Quite a Bit, 8 = 8, 9 = A Great Deal.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 30 to 270. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Teacher Efficacy: 30 – 110
- Moderate Teacher Efficacy: 111 – 190
- High Teacher Efficacy: 191 – 270
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Varies by subscale (typically Cronbach's alpha > .75).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
