Scale Overview
The Organizational Climate Index (OCI) was developed by Wayne K. Hoy, Paige A. Smith, and Scott R. Sweetland (2002). It is designed to measure School Organizational Climate. The scale is intended for use with School teachers and faculty members.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Collegial Leadership, Professional Teacher Behavior, Achievement Press, Institutional Vulnerability.

Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Rarely Occurs, 2 = Sometimes Occurs, 3 = Often Occurs, 4 = Very Frequently Occurs.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 200 to 800. Interpretation guidelines:
- Very Low (Compared to Normative Sample): 200 – 399
- Below Average: 400 – 489
- Average: 490 – 510
- Above Average: 511 – 600
- Very High: 601 – 800

Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
