The Checklist for the Quality of Classroom and School Climate (CQCSC) was developed by H. Jerome Freiberg (1999). It is designed to measure School and Classroom Climate. The scale is intended for use with School administrators, teachers, and educational staff.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 71 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Dimension A: School plan for effectiveness, Dimension B: Physical environment, Dimension C: Teacher behavior, Dimension D: The school’s system.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous Yes/No format.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 71. Interpretation guidelines:
- Weak School Climate (Significant areas of concern requiring immediate intervention): 0 – 35
- Moderate School Climate (Developing climate with specific areas needing improvement): 36 – 55
- Strong School Climate (Healthy learning environment with minor areas for optimization): 56 – 70
- Completely Healthy School Climate (Meets all criteria across all dimensions): 71 – 71
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
