Scale Overview
The Sense of Safety Scale was developed by Henry D. (2000). It is designed to measure Sense of Safety. The scale is intended for use with Students in grades 1-8.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 11 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: School and Transit Safety, Neighborhood and Home Safety.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never, 1 = Sometimes, 2 = Always.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 0 to 2. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Sense of Safety: 0 – 0
- Moderate Sense of Safety: 0 – 1
- High Sense of Safety: 1 – 2
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
