The Teacher Efficacy Scale – TES was developed by Sherri Gibson, Myron Dembo (1984). It is designed to measure Teacher Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Teachers and educators.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 22 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Personal Efficacy, Teaching Efficacy.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Agree, 2 = Moderately Agree, 3 = Agree slightly, more than disagree, 4 = Disagree slightly more than agree, 5 = Moderately Disagree, 6 = Strongly Disagree.
The scale includes 13 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 22 to 132. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Teacher Efficacy: 22 – 58
- Moderate Teacher Efficacy: 59 – 95
- High Teacher Efficacy: 96 – 132
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha of .78 for Personal Efficacy and .75 for Teaching Efficacy.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
